Madhepura: A hotelier was gunned down by a group of armed assailants late Tuesday night outside his establishment, Shiv Hotel, located at Chandni Chowk on the outskirts of Madhepura town.The deceased was identified as Jyotish Kumar (35), a resident of Katarwa Ward No. 5 under Bharrahi Outpost of Madhepura police station.According to Puja Kumari, wife of the deceased, five to six armed men arrived in front of the hotel and opened indiscriminate firing at her husband. Jyotish died on the spot from the gunshot wounds. She further said that the assailants also attempted to shoot her, but they failed as their ammunition ran out. The gunmen then fled before neighbours could comprehend what had happened.As word of the killing spread, a large crowd gathered on NH-107, bringing vehicular traffic to a standstill for hours. A police team, led by Bharrahi SHO Dharmendra Kumar and inspector Ramlakhan Pandit, rushed to the spot to restore traffic flow.The body was later taken to sadar hospital for postmortem. Preliminary investigations suggest old enmity and a land dispute could be motives behind the killing.A case has been lodged at Bharrahi OP and investigations are going on. No arrests have been made so far in this connection.
