Bhubaneswar: Chief minister Mohan Majhi announced the lifting of ban on new home guard enrolments in the state, on Saturday. The ban has been in place since Feb 2020. “2,298 vacant home guard posts will be filled up soon,” said Majhi
The announcements were made by the chief minister while responding to discussions in the assembly on the budget demand for the home department.The CM also announced the extension of the system for compassionate appointments for families of home guards killed in action.
Under this system, a family member of any home guard killed in Naxal violence or other similar incidents will be provided with a govt job.
The govt also sanctioned around Rs 540 crore from State Disaster Relief Fund for the capacity upgradation of 346 fire stations. On Aug 21, the Centre approved the Odisha govt’s action plan for Rs 200 crore for the capacity upgradation of fire department. tnn
