Hockey Bronze: Amit Rohidas village celebration after winning hockey bronze medal | Bhubaneswar News



Rourkela: Saunamara village in Sundargarh district was agog with excitement after the Indian hockey team, which includes local boy Amit Rohidas, secured the bronze medal in the Paris Olympics on Thursday.
Villagers are gearing up to give Amit a grand reception once he returns home. After India beat Spain 2-1 to confirm the bronze, the sarpanch and several villagers visited Amit’s home to extend their congratulations to his family members.Many villagers gathered at Amit’s residence on Thursday to celebrate with his family. Amit spoke with his mother and other family members on Thursday and Friday.
“I am extremely happy that my son and his team won the bronze medal at the Olympics. I watched all the matches and prayed for India’s victory,” said Golapi Rohidas, Amit’s mother.
Dusmanti Rohidas, Amit’s sister-in-law, was delighted following India’s bronze medal. “We were all watching the match. Many villagers came to our home to watch the game on TV. After India’s win, we all jumped up in joy,” said Dusmanti Rohidas. Chulu Barla, sarpanch of Saunamara panchayat, Francis Tirkey, elder brother of Hockey India president Dilip Tirkey, and a few villagers visited Amit’s home to congratulate his mother and other family members. They also presented a bouquet.
“We are extremely delighted after the Indian team bagged a bronze in Paris, in which Amit played a key role,” said Barla. “We are preparing for a grand welcome for Amit when he returns home. We will felicitate him just as we did after India clinched bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics,” Barla added. The students of Panposh and Sundargarh sports hostels celebrated as well.
