Hirakud Dam: First flood water released from Hirakud dam | Bhubaneswar News
Sambalpur: The first flood water of the season was released through 20 gates of the Hirakud dam here on Sunday. The govt said that there is no immediate threat of floods to Odisha as of now.
“Though there is no threat now, we have asked the collectors of Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Nayagarh, Angul, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Puri districts, located in the lower basin of the Mahanadi river, to remain alert,” additional special relief commissioner Padmanabh Behera said
He added, “Senior officers have been asked to remain present at the district control rooms and monitor the situation.”

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan announced the deployment to ensure timely information and precautionary measures. Current water releases from various barrages are being managed effectively, and precautionary steps are in place, including establishing care centers and holidays for schools in high-rainfall areas.

Chief Minister Stalin directed the release, starting with 12,000 cusecs, to support the Cauvery delta districts.
