63% voter turnout in peaceful PACS polls

Patna: The first phase of the Primary Agricultural Credit Society (PACS) elections in Patna district was conducted peacefully on Tuesday, recording a voter turnout of 63%, according to a statement from the Patna district administration.
Voters from 63 PACS cast their ballots at 174 polling booths across eight blocks – Dulhin Bazaar, Danapur, Naubatpur, Patna Sadar, Punpun, Phulwarisharif, Paliganj and Masaurhi. The counting of votes is scheduled to begin at 8am on Wednesday.
“Proper arrangements as per required standards were made and sufficient number of magistrates and police personnel were deployed at polling booths to ensure free and fair polls. Besides, sub-division level administrative and police officers were asked to keep continuous vigil over the situation to ensure compliance with the rules in place for the elections,” said the district administration communiqué.
The communiqué also stressed the need for ballot security. “Ensuring round-the-clock safety of ballot boxes at strongrooms and maintaining law and order at the counting venue will be the responsibility of the SHOs of the police stations concerned,” it said.
