Hyderabad: The state govt on Tuesday constituted a six-member committee comprising IAS and IPS officers to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the fire accident at Gulzar Houz on May 18 that killed 17 people, including eight children. The committee is likely to visit the fire spot on Wednesday.Transport and BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the committee will comprise GHMC commissioner RV Karnan, Hyderabad collector Anudeep Durishetty, Hyderabad police commissioner CV Anand, fire services DG Nagi Reddy, HYDRAA commissioner A V Ranganath and Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited chairman and MD Musharraf Ali Faruqui. The committee was set up following directions of chief minister A Revanth Reddy, who, on the day of the fire, had announced that a comprehensive probe would be ordered. As per preliminary investigation, a short circuit triggered a blast in the compressor unit of one of the air conditioners which led to the fire. There is also a suspicion that compressors of multiple ACs may have exploded. Preliminary inquiries ruled out any conspiracy behind the fire.Prabhakar, who is also the in-charge minister for Greater Hyderabad, said the committee will probe all the angles, find out the cause for the fire, and role of each department in rescue operations, and submit a detailed report to the CM.“The high-level committee will also study measures to avoid such fires in future and suggest the best practices to be adopted by residents and the govt,” he said.Sources said the govt is expected to soon issue orders fixing a deadline for submission of the report.
