Heavy Rainfall Predicted Across State: IMD Warns of New Low-Pressure System | Bhubaneswar News

According to an IMD bulletin, the system is likely to intensify into a depression by Monday, Dec 25. It is expected to move towards the Tamil Nadu-Sri Lanka coasts over the subsequent two days, causing heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated places until Dec 29.
Some meteorological models suggest the system could develop into a deep depression or marginal cyclonic storm by Tuesday, Dec 26.

Manorama Mohanty, scientist and head of the regional IMD centre, said that cloudy weather and light to moderate rainfall would persist in parts of the state for at least three days under the system’s influence. She added that IMD has not yet forecast the system’s intensification into a cyclonic storm.
Mohanty added that minimum temperatures across the state would remain stable for two days, followed by a rise of two to four degree Celsius over the subsequent three days.
Former regional IMD centre director Sarat Chandra Sahu said that some models predict the system’s movement along the coast towards the northern Tamil Nadu-southern Andhra Pradesh border region until Dec 29.
According to Sahu, this pattern suggests continued light to moderate rainfall in southern districts of Odisha. He added that Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, and Koraput districts might experience prolonged rainfall with higher intensity between Dec 27 and 29.
