NEW DELHI: Heavy rainfall continued to pound several parts of Mumbai on Wednesday, disrupting daily life and causing waterlogging in low-lying areas.As weather-related disruptions mounted, SpiceJet issued an advisory on social media platform X, warning passengers of potential delays.“Due to bad weather in Mumbai (BOM), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may get affected,” the airline said in a statement on social media platform X. Passengers were advised to check their flight status via the airline’s official website.In an another development, a barge engaged in Mumbai’s Coastal Road project work drifted and became stranded in mud near Mahim coast due to torrential rains. The vessel was stuck near Hinduja Hospital and efforts were underway to refloat it during high tide, with help from technical experts.IMD predicts more rainThe India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted moderate to heavy rainfall across Mumbai and its suburbs on Wednesday, with a possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in isolated areas.Heavy showers on Tuesday The heavy showers, particularly in south Mumbai, triggered waterlogging in several areas, including the Khar locality on Tuesday.Streets along Swami Vivekananda Road near National College were partially submerged, forcing vehicles and pedestrians to wade through waterlogged roads. Commuters faced major delays during peak hours as traffic slowed across multiple key routes.106% LPA during June-SeptemberMeanwhile, the IMD updated its monsoon forecast, projecting that India will likely receive 106% of the Long Period Average (LPA) rainfall during the June-September monsoon season—an upward revision from its earlier forecast of 105%. The LPA for India stands at 868.6 mm. The department said above-normal rainfall is expected across most of the country, particularly over Central and South Peninsular India. Normal rainfall is likely over Northwest India, while parts of Northeast and East India are expected to see below-normal precipitation. For the month of June specifically, the IMD forecasted above-normal rainfall over most of the country, with exceptions in some southern parts of Peninsular India and parts of Northwest and Northeast regions where below-normal rainfall is anticipated.
