Heatwave: At 47°c, Jharsuguda Breaks Season’s Record | Bhubaneswar News



Bhubaneswar: Odisha continued to be in the grip of a severe heatwave on Thursday with 12 places recording temperatures above 44°C with the season’s highest — 47°C — being recorded in Jharsuguda.
“In Bhubaneswar at 2:30pm on Thursday, the day temperature was 36.4°C, humidity 67% and the real-feel temperature was 54°C,” said Uma Shankar Das, a weather scientist at India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) Bhubaneswar centre.The severe heatwave will continue for the next two days.
From June 1 – when Odisha will vote in the final phase of polling – the coastal districts are expected to get some respite due to likely thunderstorm activities, according to the IMD forecast.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning (for heatwave condition) for nine districts — Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Nuapada and Nabarangpur — till Saturday.
However, thunderstorms activities are likely at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Angul and Dhenkanal on Friday and Saturday, the IMD said.
