‘He gave me death threats’: How a doorstep grocery delivery ended with fractured skull and police case in Bengaluru | Bengaluru News

BENGALURU: A 30-year-old man has alleged he was assaulted by a delivery executive recently in Judges Colony, Basaveshwaranagar.According to a complaint filed by Shashank S, a businessman, the accused is Vishnuvardhan, who was assigned to deliver groceries to his house. The complainant told police that on May 21, his wife and her sister — who was visiting the family — ordered a few groceries, including butter, pure ghee, and chips, that same afternoon through a grocery delivery app (Zepto). The delivery executive reached the house around 1.50pm.When Shashank’s sister-in-law went to collect the order at the gate, Vishnuvardhan got into an argument with her over some confusion regarding the address. Hearing the commotion, Shashank walked to the front gate. Meanwhile, his sister-in-law collected the groceries and went inside.Shashank questioned Vishnuvardhan for being rude to the woman, and this sparked a row between them. According to Shashank, the delivery executive hurled abuses at him, and when he objected to it, assaulted him. He allegedly punched the complainant on the face and head multiple times before fleeing. Shashank also claimed that Vishnuvardhan issued a death threat before leaving.Shashank sustained a severe injury below his left eye. He explained his ordeal on Instagram, saying he was subjected to a CT scan and doctors said he had sustained a fracture in the skull, which would need surgery if it didn’t heal within a week. “I’ve filed a complaint with the police and am waiting for their action,” Shashank said. “I’m posting video seeking justice and so that others who order through the app don’t get assaulted like me,” he wrote on Instagram.A senior police officer said Shashank has provided CCTV footage capturing the incident. In it, Shashank is seen pushing the delivery executive, who subsequently assaults him. A case has been registered under BNS Sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 126 (wrongful restraint), 351 (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).Zepto replied to Shashank’s Instagram post stating: “We regret any inconvenience caused. Professional conduct is essential to us, we’ll make sure this is addressed.”
