HC stays probe in FIR against IIMB faculty | Bengaluru News
Bengaluru: In a relief for the director and faculty members of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB), Karnataka high court Tuesday stayed investigation into a FIR registered against them until the next date of hearing.
Vacation judge Justice Hemant Chandanagoudar also ordered notice to Mico Layout police and Gopal Das, the complainant and faculty member of IIMB.He had alleged that the accused-petitioners had revealed his Scheduled Caste status.
Last week, Mico Layout police registered the FIR based on Das’ complaint, invoking Sections 3(1)(r) and 3(1)(s) of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Ordinance, 2014, and Sections 351(2) and 351(3) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Rishikesha T Krishnan, director of IIMB, Dinesh Kumar, G Shainesh, Srinivas Prakhya, Sreelata Jonnalagadda, Rahul De, Ashis Mishra and Chetan Subramanian (all faculty members) were named in the complaint.
Appearing for the petitioners, senior advocate Udaya Holla submitted that the allegation is that the petitioners revealed Das’ caste status but he himself had mentioned it in his CV. Holla further told the court that the complaint was lodged only when Das was denied promotion.
