Chennai: Madras high court has dismissed a plea seeking a CBI probe into the caste killing of G Praveen in Pallikaranai on Feb 24, 2024 as he had married a woman belonging to a most backward community.Refusing to transfer the probe to CBI, Justice G K Ilanthiraiyan dismissed the plea moved by Praveen’s father, V Gopi.According to Gopi, on Feb 24, 2024, his son was taken to a parking lot in Pallikaranai by force, assaulted, and murdered by a gang.“The girl’s family conspired to murder his son with the help of his friends and relatives. Her father was a DMK functionary and was engaged in political and other communal activities,” the petitioner said. He added that even during the pendency of the investigation, the girl’s family, with the help of local police, threatened him to withdraw the case and was continuously subjected to threat and harassment.“The girl also gave a statement to the judicial magistrate at Alandur about the threats from her family. It was also informed that the girl was even contacted by a superintendent of police and threatened ,” he said. Due to continuous harassment by her family and the local police, the girl died by suicide in April 2024, he said.Since the girl’s family has political connections, the chargesheet completely ruled out the incriminating circumstances pointed out by the girl, he said. He further alleged that the police did not produce the necessary evidence as per law, and two of the accused were absconding and evading trial proceedings after being enlarged on bail.
