Hyderabad: The Telangana high court has ordered that the status quo be maintained regarding its previous directions in the ongoing dispute over Bathukamma Kunta lake at Bagh Amberpet.A Sudhakar Reddy, a local resident who claimed ownership of the land where the lake is located, had approached the high court seeking relief. However, the court declined to grant any relief and imposed a stay on the land.The court observed that the petitioner, in the present civil miscellaneous appeal, had previously approached it through a civil revision petition (CRP), which was disposed of in Feb 2025. Taking that order into account, the high court directed that the status quo existing as of that date be maintained until June 10, 2025, in relation to the suit concerning the disputed property, which is currently pending before the Hyderabad city civil court.While disposing of the earlier CRP, the high court had directed the trial court to adjudicate the pending application related to the disputed land. The high court further clarified that it had not expressed any opinion on the merits of the case, and instructed that the trial court should decide the pending injunction application strictly in accordance with the law.Sudhakar Reddy, who claims ownership of the seven-acre land, alleged that govt authorities, particularly HYDRAA, had encroached upon the land and disturbed his peaceful possession.He asserted that the authorities had undertaken digging operations on the property. However, the govt contended that Sudhakar Reddy had illegally filled the lake with debris and soil, levelled it, and was now claiming ownership of the converted lakebed.
