Hyderabad: The Telangana high court on Tuesday directed the police to explain their stand on two cases registered against BRS working president and former minister KT Rama Rao at Saifabad in Hyderabad and Utnoor in Adilabad. Along with cops, Justice K Lakshman also directed KTR to file a counter.
The court was hearing KTR’s petition to quash the cases filed over his alleged derogatory comments on chief minister A Revanth Reddy and accusations against Congress.
In Aug last year, Saifabad police had registered a case based on a complaint by Rajya Sabha MP Anil Kumar Yadav, alleging that KTR used derogatory language against the CM. Similarly, a case was registered by Utnoor police on Sept 30 on a complaint by Congress leader Atram Suguna, alleging that KTR accused the Congress of misappropriating funds worth Rs 25,000 crores in the name of the Musi rejuvenation project.
KTR’s counsel T V Ramanarao claimed that the allegations were false and politically motivated, and urged the court to quash the FIRs and stay further proceedings, including arrest.
The case was posted to March 18.
CJ to assign Teenmar case against KTR, Jagadish Reddy
In another case, Justice K Lakshman directed the registry to place before the Chief Justice a petition filed by KTR and former minister Jagadish Reddy to quash a case against them on a complaint by Chintapandu Naveen alias Teenmar Mallanna, alleging that they had released fake videos to defame him during MLC elections.
Justice Lakshman said that he could not hear this petition and directed the registry to place it before the Chief Justice to assign it to another bench.
