Harvested paddy destroyed in fire at K’pada village | Bhubaneswar News

Kendrapada: A fire destroyed harvested paddy stacked up in a field at Padanapur village in Kendrapada district on Saturday night.
“We heaped around 200 paddy bags to sell in the nearby primary agriculture cooperative society at Aul. But all our paddy crops were burnt,” said Masjid Khan, an affected farmer.
The fire that erupted in a corner of the field around 10 pm engulfed paddy heaped by Sk Salauddin, Sk Abu Bekar, Sk Ismaili, Sk Nabab , S K Chanda, Sk Nabi and S K Babu, among others.
“We suspect electrical wires came in contact with each other and sparks erupted. The sparks fell on the paddy crop and destroyed them,” said Sk Fazil, an affected farmer.
Fire service personnel, with the help of locals, managed to control the fire from spreading to other fields.
“I borrowed Rs 60,000 from the village society to raise paddy crops over three acres of land. Now I am ruined,” said Salauddin.
Aul tehsildar Santiswarup Mishra visited the village on Sunday and assured all the affected farmers to provide help to mitigate their woes.
