Hardware trader killed in property dispute in Champaran | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: A hardware businessman was shot dead in East Champaran district on Sunday while riding a scooter to the market with his nephew. Two men on a motorcycle fired at him, but his nephew managed to escape unharmed. Police said the killing was probably linked to a property dispute between the victim and his relatives.
The deceased, 50-year-old Ramayan Sah from Madhuban village, was in the area for his father’s funeral, who had passed away on July 26.Ramayan, who ran a hardware shop in Kathmandu, had returned to his village for the last rites, which were held on Saturday.
According to Pipra SHO Sunil Kumar, Ramayan was on way to a local market to buy items for the ‘shraadh’ ceremony with his nephew, Vikash Sah, when the attack occurred. Ramayan was hit in the chest by a bullet. Police recovered two empty bullet shells from the spot. The cellphone and wallet of the victim were left untouched, suggesting robbery was not a motive.
“Initial investigations revealed that Ramayan was embroiled in a property dispute with relatives, including a sibling, who accused him of greed and attempting to claim all the property. Ramayan had filed a case against them over this dispute. The relative who was with him on the scooter did not recognize the attackers,” the SHO added.
