NEW DELHI: In a very rare occurrence Maharashtra’s Buldhana, where a pregnant woman‘s sonography revealed a case of ‘fetus in fetu‘ in, a condition where a parasitic twin forms inside its identical twin.
This condition is marked by a mass in the abdomen that resembles a fetus.
Dr Prasad Aggarwal, a gynecologist and sonography specialist at District Women’s Hospital in Buldhana, explained, “Two days ago, a 32-year-old woman came in for a routine check-up. She is nine months pregnant. During the sonography, I discovered that her unborn child was carrying another child inside. This condition, which is extremely rare, was missed in her previous scans. After further examination and consultations with other doctors, it was confirmed.”
He added, “The embryo inside the unborn child is not developing. She has been referred to Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar for treatment. There have been only 100-200 reported cases worldwide, typically identified after birth. In India, there have been only 10-15 such cases.”
