Prayagraj: Temples of Lord Hanuman were decorated with flowers and electric jhalar in city on Wednesday. Bhandara was organised at several temples in the city, and Shobha Yatra (religious procession) to marked Hanuman Jayanti. Devotees celebrated the day with much fervour and devotion. Since morning, devotees offered garlands made of marigold flowers and Tulsi leaves to the Lord at different temples of the city, including the Lete Hanuman Temple of Sangam, Bade Hanuman Ji of Civil Lines, Rambagh, High Court, etc. Although all temples witnessed heavy rush, long queues of devotees were seen at the Hanuman Temple of Civil Lines and Sangam.
At the Hanuman Temple of Sangam, the Maha Abhishekam of the deity was performed. The head priest, Mahant Balbir Giri, offered the ‘Chhappan Bhog’ and performed Maha Aarti in the evening. Giri added that on the incarnation day of Lord Hanuman, the ‘Maha Shringar’ of deity was done. The temple was decorated with special flowers, and Abhishekam was done with 108 litres of milk, 31 litres of curd, 11 kg of cow ghee, 11 kg of honey, 11 kg of juice, and 51 kg of Panchamrit, etc. Likewise, Shobha Yatra was also taken out in several areas of the city, including Tripollia (Zero Road), Rambagh, and Allahapur. Over a dozen children dressed as Hanuman, Shiva, Ram, Laxman, and other gods and goddesses walked the street as devotees offered obeisance and danced to the tune of religious songs. A procession was also taken out from the temple of Rambagh, from where devotees took the idol of Hanumanji to Sangam. In another procession, devotees took out Shobha Yatra in Allahapur locality. In another procession taken out in Daraganj locality, procession started from Ram-Janki Temple and, passing from Buxi Khurd, Buxi Band, concluded at starting point. This festival is observed to commemorate victory of Lord Krishna over demon king Narkasur.
