Hailstorm cools Hyderabad, more thundershowers expected over next 48 hours
Hailstorm and light rain hit several parts of the city on Tuesday

HYDERABAD: A hailstorm and light rain hit several parts of Hyderabad on Tuesday, briefly easing the summer heat.
Indiranagar in Bandlaguda recorded the highest rainfall at 17.5 mm, followed by Barkas (14.8 mm) and Kanchanbagh (9.5 mm). Over the next 48 hours, cloudy skies and evening thundershowers are expected, with temperatures ranging between 24°C and 38°C.
Several districts across Telangana also experienced rainfall on Tuesday, with moderate to light showers recorded in multiple areas.
Farmers, particularly those with ripening crops, have been urged to take preventive measures, as hail or strong winds could damage their fields.
In a broader forecast that offers hope for the months ahead, the IMD on Tuesday predicted that India is likely to receive above-normal rainfall during the four-month monsoon season from June to September. Cumulative rainfall is estimated at 105% of the long-period average (LPA) of 87 cm, with a model error margin of 5%.

How do you feel about the recent hailstorm in Hyderabad?

Experts point out that the number of rainy days is gradually decreasing, while intense rain events—where large volumes of rain fall in a short time—are becoming more frequent. This shift is contributing to a rise in both drought-like conditions and sudden flooding in different parts of the country.
