Gutka, cigarette ban at SJTA office

Bhubaneswar: Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) on Thursday introduced stringent regulations, prohibiting harmful substances on their office premises situated on Grand Road, around 100 metres from the shrine.
“No officer or employee should consume tobacco, gutkha, liquor, or any intoxicating substance during duty hours. Employees found violating these rules will face disciplinary consequences.

The decision aims to maintain the sanctity and cleanliness in the office,” SJTA chief administrator Arabinda Padhee stated while announcing a set of new rules for the staff.
The administration will conduct routine surveillance and surprise inspections to ensure adherence. Sources said such a curb was introduced after finding several employees consuming paan and gutka in the office.
“All SJTA employees must mandatorily submit their asset list for the year 2024 by January 31. Failure to do so will result in no increments, promotions, awards, or any financial incentives being granted,” Padhee said.
Additionally, SJTA has introduced compulsory handloom attire for staff every Friday, excluding uniformed personnel. This initiative supports local handloom artisans and preserves traditional textiles. Staff members are permitted to wear traditional handloom garments such as sarees, kurtas, and dhotis during office hours.
SJTA has instituted a prohibition on use of mobile phones by employees on temple premises.
