Gulzar Houz fire: 6-member IAS-IPS panel set up to probe blaze that killed 17, says minister Ponnam Prabhakar
Following the tragic fire at Gulzar Houz that claimed 17 lives, including eight children, the Telangana government has formed a high-level committee of IAS and IPS officers to investigate the incident.

HYDERABAD: The Telangana state govt on Tuesday constituted a high-level IAS and IPS officers six-member committee to conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the fire accident at Gulzar Houz that killed 17 lives including eight children on Sunday.Transport and BC welfare minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the committee will comprise GHMC commissioner R V Karnan, Hyderabad district collector Anudeep Durishetty, Hyderabad police commissioner CV Anand, fire services director general Y Nagi Reddy, HYDRAA commissioner A V Ranganath and Telangana southern power distribution company limited chairman and managing director Musharraf Ali Faruqui.The fire accident occured on Sunday (May 18) in a building at Gulzar Houz near Charminar in the old city of Hyderabad. Preliminary investigations said a short circuit that triggered a blast in the compressor unit of the air conditioners as the reason.Ponnam Prabhakar, who is also the in charge minister for Greater Hyderabad, said the committee will probe the reasons and causes for the fire accident, and the role and work done by each department in rescue and relief operations, and submit a detailed report to chief minister A Revanth Reddy..

“The high-level committee comprising IAS and IPS officers will also study the measures to be taken to avoid such fire accidents in future and suggest to the state govt the best practices to be adopted to avoid fire accidents,” minister Ponnam said.After the submission of the report, the chief minister along with the deputy CM and senior officials will review the report and take a policy decision.
