Groom kidnapped by dancers at wedding | Patna News – Times of India

Patna: What was meant to be a night of joy, music and marital vows turned into utter pandemonium in Gopalganj when a groom was abducted from his own wedding by the very dancers hired to perform at the celebration. The incident occurred just past midnight on Friday during a traditional “Launda Nach” performance in Dighwa Dubouli village. The event, held under the jurisdiction of the Town police station, spiralled out of control following a clash between the dance troupe and wedding guests. What began as a quarrel over ending the performance ended in a violent abduction straight from the mandap. The groom, Sonu Kumar Sharma, had just completed his wedding ceremony and was in the midst of post-rituals when chaos erupted. Guests insisted the dancers continue performing but the troupe wanted to leave. Heated words flew, tempers flared and a physical scuffle ensued.“The groom was completing the wedding rituals in the mandap. After dinner, the guests (baraatis) were watching the dance performance. The dancers wanted to end the programme, which angered the guests. Meanwhile, a fight broke out with the dancers. A dancer, Muskan Kinnar, was injured in the altercation and was taken to the hospital. At 2am, she called her group and went to the bride’s house. They first assaulted the bride’s family and then took the groom from the mandap,” said a police officer.Family members alleged that a group from the dance party returned around 2am in a vehicle, stormed the wedding venue, assaulted the bride’s relatives and forcibly took the groom away.A full nine hours passed in fear and confusion before police traced the abductors. At 11am on Saturday, Sonu Kumar Sharma was rescued from Siwan district.Gopalganj SP Awdhesh Dixit said, “Upon receiving information about the groom’s abduction, the police quickly responded and recovered him. A dispute had erupted between the organisers, guests and the dance party over issues related to payment.”The wedding was hosted at the residence of Surendra Sharma and had proceeded smoothly until the surreal abduction played out like a scene from a film.“This should have been the happiest day of our lives. Instead, it turned into a nightmare,” said a relative. While the groom is now safe, the drama has left villagers stunned and law enforcement digging deeper into a wedding that turned from festive to felonious in a matter of minutes.
