Grocer shot at during alleged extortion bid | Bhubaneswar News

Rourkela: Two unidentified assailants opened fire at a grocery shop owner and a customer in Tamda Haat in Sundargarh district on Friday evening.Shopowner, Shiv Shankar Sahu of Tainsar, sustained serious injuries when one of the attackers shot him in the chest after he questioned their demand for money around 7:45 pm.According to eyewitnesses, the assailants arrived on a motorcycle and demanded money from Sahu. When he asked about the amount, one of them pulled out a pistol and fired three shots. While one bullet hit Sahu’s chest, another struck a customer’s leg. The third shot missed its target.The attackers fled towards Rourkela immediately after the shooting. Sahu was rushed to Rourkela Govt Hospital by his brother, where he is in a critical condition. The injured customer also sought medical attention separately.“We are investigating the matter. A manhunt is also on,” said Sabita Patra, inspector in-charge, Chandiposh police station.
