MUMBAI:A panel discussion on “Greening Mumbai” was held on the evening of 5 April at the Victoria Memorial School for the Blind in Tardeo. The conversation focused on making the city more liveable through bold, climate-smart urban greening initiatives.

Mumbai hosted a ‘Greening Mumbai’ discussion on 5 April, featuring prominent figures like Dia Mirza and Nyrika Holkar
The panel featured film actor and UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador Dia Mirza; Nyrika Holkar, Executive Director at Godrej Enterprises Group; Radha Goenka, Director at RPG Foundation and climate philanthropist; Aaran Patel, Executive Director (Climate), Nand & Jeet Khemka Foundation; and Deepti Talpade, Urban Climate Resilience Expert at WRI India.
During the discussion, citizens shared their vision for the open spaces planned along the Mumbai Coastal Road. They urged the authorities to transform these areas into a coastal forest park that would support an ecosystem of trees, birds, and pollinators.

The project aims to preserve and promote ecological well-being
“The city’s vast coastline has long been an oasis of calm for its citizens. While the administration provides the hardware, we, as citizens, contribute the software—the spirit of what the city truly needs,” said Aaran Patel.
“Opportunities to shape the city’s open spaces don’t come often. A coastal forest on the west coast, with walkable pathways, will help preserve the ecosystem and allow it to thrive together.”
