Govt to provide 1L units under housing scheme | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: State govt will provide 1 lakh houses to economically and socially disadvantaged families under the second phase of Antyodaya Gruha Yojana next month, panchayati raj and drinking water minister Rabi Narayan Naik announced on Friday.
The announcement comes after the implementation of the scheme’s first phase, which saw 60,000 beneficiaries receiving work orders for constructing houses. The initiative aims to ensure housing security for the state’s most vulnerable populations.
“We have already initiated the process by sending directives to district collectors and officials concerned to commence the house distribution procedure under the welfare scheme,” Naik said in a press statement.
“The scheme will prioritise various disadvantaged groups, including persons with disabilities, widows and freedom fighters. Special consideration will also be given to individuals suffering from chronic diseases such as cancer and leprosy, ensuring that the most vulnerable sections of society receive adequate housing support,” said the minister.
The scheme represents a significant step toward achieving the state’s goal of providing affordable housing to all. It aligns with the broader objective of improving living standards for economically disadvantaged communities.
Local administration officials have been instructed to ensure transparent beneficiary selection and timely implementation of the housing projects. “The govt has emphasised the importance of maintaining construction quality standards while adhering to the prescribed timelines,” said an official of the panchayati raj department.
“This initiative is expected to significantly impact the lives of 1 lakh families across the state, providing them with dignity and security through proper housing. The govt will closely monitor the implementation process to ensure the successful completion of the ambitious housing project,” said the Naik.
