Bhubaneswar: Chairing a pre-budget consultation meeting here on Friday, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced plans to create 40,000 new jobs by the end of the current financial year.
“This year’s budget will be truly people-centric. We are actively seeking public input through multiple channels, including email, WhatsApp and our web portal until Jan 31,” the CM told the media after the meeting.
State govt has outlined several priority areas for the upcoming budget, with a strong focus on rural development and support for economically disadvantaged communities. Key sectors targeted for growth include IT and semiconductors, petrochemicals, steel, renewable energy, textiles, agro-industry and tourism. Agricultural development remains a key focus, with plans to enhance farmers’ income and expand cold storage facilities.
Majhi said the state has already provided 20,000 jobs and aimed to create an additional 40,000 positions by the end of the 2024-25 fiscal year. Govt has also set an ambitious target of creating 65,000 jobs by the end of FY 2025-26.
The industrial sector is also poised for major growth, with approved investments worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore, which are expected to generate 1,10,000 jobs. Govt is also launching a new initiative, ‘Developed village, developed Odisha’, to boost rural employment opportunities.
Majhi assured that the fiscal response team (FRT) will carefully consider all public suggestions in preparing what he described as “a comprehensive plan for a prosperous Odisha”.
