Bhubaneswar: Deputy leader of opposition Prasanna Acharya on Wednesday said the state govt should stop blaming the previous BJD dispensation for everything and start delivering on promises it made to the people, which it doesn’t seem to be doing. In response, BJP said the right action will be taken at the right time.
Acharya’s comment came a day after chief minister Mohan Majhi said at a programme on National Consumers Day that he too was a victim of the chit fund scam, taking a veiled dig at the previous BJD govt under whose tenure more than 10 lakh investors were duped of their savings.
“Govt has the power to take action. Now the govt has changed. There is no point in parroting about the previous govt. How long will you hammer on the previous govt and get away? If the new govt takes any action regarding the chit fund scam, has BJD opposed it?” questioned Acharya at a news conference. Acharya was responding to questions from the media pertaining to the promise of BJP govt to facilitate the return of money to duped investors.
So far, money of 2 lakh small investors has been returned.
BJP spokesperson Jatin Mohanty said, “Can’t we say that people were victimised due to the chit fund scam under the BJD govt? And to top it all, why should we say beforehand what action the govt has planned to take?”
