Govt sets June 30 as deadline to finalise boundary restructuring

Bhubaneswar: The state govt has set June 30 as the deadline to finalise administrative boundary restructuring across the state, aligning with the Centre’s plans for a nationwide census this year. The administrative boundaries will be frozen from July 1, after which no modifications to land holdings of any area will be permitted.
According to a recent notification from the state revenue and disaster management department, the initiative aims to facilitate an efficient and precise census operation in the state.
A govt official said that the freeze on administrative boundaries is essential for maintaining consistency during the ensuing census process. This measure ensures accurate population counting and resource allocation.
“The restructuring encompasses all administrative units, including districts, sub-divisions, tehsils, revenue villages and urban local bodies. All departments and field officials have received instructions to finalise any current or planned boundary modifications before the specified deadline,” a govt official said.
No changes to administrative boundaries will be allowed from July 1, 2025, until the census process concludes.
The govt recently issued guidelines for district collectors and local authorities regarding boundary adjustments. “All pending proposals for changes in administrative boundaries must be submitted and processed before the deadline. This includes modifications to district borders, tehsil boundaries and village demarcations. Local officials have been instructed to update their records and maps accordingly. Any disputes regarding boundaries must be resolved through proper channels before the deadline,” the official said.
