Govt plans waterfront devpt project along Mahanadi

Bhubaneswar: The state govt on Thursday announced an ambitious waterfront development project along the Mahanadi river in Cuttack. The project aims to transform the riverfront into a world-class urban recreational space while preserving its ecological and cultural heritage.
The project was unveiled during a high-level meeting chaired by housing and urban development minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, along with Cuttack MP Bhartruhari Mahatab, Cuttack-Barabati MLA Sofia Firdous, Cuttack-Choudwar MLA Souvik Biswal and Cuttack Sadar MLA PC Sethy.
The officials emphasised expediting the work according to the detailed project report, with a particular focus on completing the Bali Yatra ground before the festival. The comprehensive development plan includes several key components.
According to officials, for environmental conservation, the authorities will implement water quality management systems, install waste treatment plants, protect aquatic biodiversity and initiate river clean-up initiatives.
In infrastructure development, plans include creating mixed-use spaces, including residential and commercial zones, green spaces, pedestrian-friendly walkways, cycling paths, and smart technology integration for waste management and water monitoring systems.
