Govt plans grand celebrations for capital foundation day | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: The capital city will celebrate its 77th foundation day for two days from April 13, with the govt deciding on Friday to hold parades and various competitions among students, among other events.
A high-level meeting, chaired by development commissioner Anu Garg, decided that only college students will participate in the civilian parade on April 13 due to heatwave-like conditions. “Parade teams from all govt and private colleges in the city will be requested to participate. Bands from various institutions will take part in the parade to make it more attractive,” said a govt statement.
“Like previous years, this year’s foundation day will also be celebrated with peace and joy,” said Garg, who sought everyone’s cooperation for the celebrations.
Odia Pakhya is being observed by the department of Odia language, literature and culture from April 1 to 14. Various programmes will be held daily during the period. Among the events, April 13 will be dedicated to ‘Odia Food Day’, while April 14 will mark the celebration of ‘Odia New Year’.
“With various activities taking place in the capital during the Odia Paksha celebration, the city will have a festive atmosphere for 14 days. In view of this, it was decided in the meeting to make the foundation day celebrations more attractive by combining the first day’s ceremony on April 13 with the Odia New Year celebration on April 14,” said an official govt statement.
On April 13 morning, guests will lay wreaths and floral tributes at the foundation stone plaque in front of the assembly building. The chief guest will hoist the foundation day flag. The civilian parade will move from Rabindra Mandap to Jayadev Bhawan.
On the evenings of April 13 and 14, cultural programmes will be held at Utkal Mandap. The meeting discussed inviting guests, cleaning and beautifying the foundation plaque and surrounding areas, preparing the stage for the flag-hoisting ceremony, arranging seating for guests and invitees, conducting cultural programmes, organising various competitions among students, and holding a photo exhibition showcasing the heritage of Bhubaneswar at Jayadev Bhawan by the information and public relations department.
