Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to enhance the state police force’s effectiveness, chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi approved substantial increases in allowances and incentives for police personnel across various ranks.
The uniform allowance was doubled across the board, with inspectors now receiving Rs 8,600 annually, up from Rs 4,300. Sub-inspectors and ASIs will get Rs 8,400, while havildars, constables, and sepoys will receive Rs 10,000. The allowance of special force ex-army personnel will increase to Rs 11,800 annually. Also, the annual extra duty incentive was enhanced to Rs 25,000 for constables and sepoys, while havildars will receive up to Rs 30,000.
During a meeting at Lok Seva Bhavan, where association officers expressed their gratitude, Majhi emphasised the importance of maintaining law and order. He urged police personnel to ensure prompt complaint registration, immediate assistance to the helpless, and enhanced security for vulnerable citizens.
The state govt also announced plans to fill around 16,000 vacancies and create 16,059 new positions to improve police-to-population ratio. “The state govt is committed to building a skilled and disciplined police force in Odisha,” read a govt statement.
DGP YB Khurania welcomed the initiatives during the meeting, which was attended by senior officials including chief secretary Manoj Ahuja, additional chief secretary Nikuñj Bihari Dhal, and home department additional chief secretary Satyabrata Sahu.
