Govt employees will get housing under 10% state quota by lottery

Mumbai: In a significant move, the state housing department has implemented a Bombay high court order from 2014, putting an end to the direct allotment of dwelling units to serving govt employees from the govt quota.
The department issued a Govt Resolution (GR) last week, stating that the govt assets will no longer be directly disbursed to any individual. The GR aims to ensure transparency and provide equal opportunity to all eligible employees.
As per the new directive, the Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (Mhada) has been instructed to issue advertisements, call for applications, and disburse the dwelling units through a lottery system. The Govt Resolution has also directed Mhada to maintain an inventory of dwelling units received under the 10% quota.
