Govt committed to achieve goal of prosperous Odisha by 2036: CM | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: State govt is committed to nation-building and achieving the goal of a prosperous Odisha by 2036, said chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi in his motion of thanks to the governor’s address in the assembly, on Saturday.
He said the govt is committed to the overall development of the state, focusing on employment for the youth, assistance for farmers, women’s empowerment and protection of the rights of marginalised communities.
“Empowering mothers at social, political and economic levels is our core responsibility. The speaker of this House and the deputy chief minister of the state are women. Both are performing their duties remarkably. This is true women’s empowerment,” he said.
He said in these eight months, to tackle issues like malnutrition, the per capita expenditure on midday meals was increased. “Besides, our govt is working on a holistic approach to eradicate the problem completely,” he said.
Majhi further said that Lord Jagannath is the heartbeat and pride of the Odia community. “Though our govt is only eight months old, we are working every moment with the religious sentiments, traditions, heritage and culture of our Odia people in mind,” he said.
The CM further said that in the first cabinet meeting itself, steps were taken to establish a corpus fund of Rs 500 crore for the promotion and propagation of Jagannath culture. “Four sacred gates have been opened to facilitate entry on the Shri Mandir premises,” he said.
Majhi said that not just Jagannath culture, but for the promotion and propagation of Odia language, literature, culture, heritage and tradition, the govt has decided to establish an initial corpus fund of Rs 200 crore.
“Our govt is committed to providing clean, responsive, corruption-free, and people-centric governance. Today, our govt’s vigilance department is operating in hyper mode, and everyone can see it,” he said.
Hitting out at the opposition, Majhi said various opposition parties repeatedly mentioned that the current govt has not done anything significant in the past eight months. “I want to express my happiness over this comparison because the opposition is comparing my eight months in office with the previous govt’s 24 years,” he said.
He said that for 24 years, women were misled with slogans of empowerment, but in just 24 minutes, his govt decided to provide financial assistance of up to Rs 10,000 annually to nearly 1 crore women under the Subhadra scheme.
About the law and order situation, Majhi said that to make the state police more agile, a decision was made to provide an additional four-wheeler for each police station and purchase 5,663 motorcycles.
Prioritising primary education, the govt will implement the Godabarish Mishra Model Primary School Scheme. In every village panchayat, these model schools will have modern infrastructure and trained teachers to improve the quality of education, he said.
“Our govt has decided to implement the National Education Policy-2020. To further strengthen its implementation, the state govt has decided to adopt the national curriculum framework, which will be followed as the state curriculum,” he said.
He said that to address discrepancies in the healthcare sector, the govt is taking appropriate steps. “The injustice of keeping Odias away from the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana for seven long years is being rectified,” he said.
He further said that Odisha has established a distinct identity by organising many national and international conferences. “Dedication of our govt in organising the DGP and IGP conference in Nov 2024, celebrating Navy Day and more is commendable,” he said.
