Govt approves pension for more Emergency detainees | Bhubaneswar News

Bhubaneswar: CM Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday approved pension benefits for another 23 individuals detained under MISA (Maintenance of Internal Security Act) and DIR(Defence of India Rules) during the Emergency.The latest approval includes 19 MISA and 4 DIR detainees, bringing the total number of beneficiaries to 44. Each eligible person will receive a monthly pension of Rs 20,000, along with comprehensive medical coverage provided by the state govt.The initiative is part of the state govt’s broader commitment to recognise those who were imprisoned for opposing the Emergency imposed between June 25, 1975 and March 21, 1977.The scheme covers individuals detained under various laws, including MISA and DIR, during the period.The pension scheme will benefit all surviving detainees with effect from Jan 1. The move follows the govt’s recent increase in allowances for freedom fighters.
