Govt seeks answers from Kutey, Singh

Bhubaneswar: The govt on Friday asked IPS officers D S Kutey and Ashis Singh to submit explanations regarding charges of alleged interference in the recent elections and availing leave by misrepresenting facts, respectively. The govt gave them 30 days to file replies in their defence and warned of inquiry if they fail to do so.
Kutey, while serving as special secretary in the BJD govt had been suspended by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for alleged interference in the elections and later got reinstated. The BJP govt posted him in the home department as an officer on special duty.
The ECI, while recommending revocation of Kutey’s suspension, had said departmental proceedings against him will continue. Kutey had been suspended on May 28.
Singh had been transferred from IG (central range) to a non-poll related post on the ECI’s direction. Subsequently, he was posted as IG, CM’s security in the previous BJD govt. Singh is now serving as an OSD in the home department.
Action was recommended against Singh for allegedly misrepresenting facts regarding his health and had availed leave. Singh went on sick leave since May 4 citing health issues. Following BJP’s complaint that Singh was working in favour of BJD despite being transferred as IG, CM’s security, the ECI discovered he was on medical leave and asked him to undergo tests.
