HYDERABAD: Reminiscing the tough times her parents faced after shifting their family from Bhadrachalam to Hyderabad, Indian women’s U-19 World Cup winning team member from the state Gongadi Trisha said that there were many people questioning their move to Hyderabad. She said she feels happy that she could prove the doubters wrong.
Trisha, who won the Player of the tournament award in India’s successful campaign said, “When my parents moved to Hyderabad, there were people who questioned them, asking ‘What is the guarantee that I will do well?’ But today, I am very happy. The result is all because of the hard work and sacrifices of my parents.”
She also said her next goal is to play in the Indian senior team and win the World Cup. “We don’t have a World Cup yet. My dream is to be part of the Indian senior team and win the World Cup,” she added.
Meanwhile, national badminton chief coach Pullela Gopichand and former BCCI chief selector MSK Prasad hailed Trisha’s performance in the U-19 World Cup and said she would inspire many to take up the sport.
“Credit should be given to her parents (Rami Reddy and Madhavi) for identifying her talent at a young age and guiding her. Her performance is an inspiration for many youngsters,” he said on the sidelines of the felicitation function of Trisha organised by the Ark Group.
Meanwhile, Gopichand said, “I feel such felicitation functions are important, not to the players but for the upcoming athletes and aspiring youngsters who are sitting here. It is a big motivation for them to succeed in their career. It is also great to see corporates and entrepreneurs supporting athletes. I urge more corporates to come forward and support the players.”
Gummi Ram Reddy, CMD of Ark Foundation, said the sacrifices of Trisha’s parents paid dividends. He also hoped to see her in the Indian senior team soon.
