Gold stolen from home when Bengaluru couple was away for check-up

Bengaluru: Nearly 468 grams of gold ornaments were stolen from a house in Binnamangala village near Devanahalli while an elderly couple was away for a medical check-up on May 17. According to a complaint filed with Devanahalli police by Shivaramaiah, 77, the theft occurred between 11am and 11pm. He and his wife Sundaramma had travelled to Bengaluru for a check-up and returned home at 11.10pm.The couple discovered that the door near the kitchen was open and the window frame of a ground floor room had been cut. Upon checking the first floor, they found a cupboard open and belongings scattered. Ornaments, including bangles, earrings, chains and a necklace, kept in a suitcase, had been taken.Sundaramma told police that she may have forgotten to lock the kitchen door before leaving. A police officer said someone known to the couple could be involved. A case has been registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 331 (punishment for house-trespass or housebreaking) and 305 (theft in a dwelling house, or means of transportation or place of worship, etc.).
