Gokhale bridge to be completely ready by Apr 30 | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Mumbai: While the main construction work on Andheri’s Gopal Krishna Gokhale bridge is complete, allied works are expected to be finished by April 30, and work on the Vikhroli flyover is expected to be completed by May 31, said BMC.
A decision regarding the opening of Gokhale bridge for traffic will be taken after consulting and coordinating with traffic police, BMC’s additional municipal commissioner Abhijit Bangar said on Friday after he inspected the ongoing works at the Andheri east-west connector and Vikhroli flyover.
Bangar said the main construction work on Gokhale bridge, which includes work within the railway area, both approach roads, and the connector to C D Barfiwala bridge, was completed. Curing of the concrete on the section between Teli Galli bridge on N C Phadke Road and Gokhale bridge will be done on Friday and final touches, such as crash barriers, noise barriers, railings, painting, thermoplast, electrical poles, and signages, are in their final stages.
Bangar pointed out that the slip road on Barfiwala bridge is narrow, so it should be widened to ensure smooth traffic flow on the southern descent of the newly operational section. He also directed that a “sufficiently” wide road be provided for traffic over Barfiwala bridge, while roadworks will continue from Juhu Galli junction to JVPD. BMC officials have conducted a joint inspection of Gokhale bridge along with traffic police.
While 95% of the work on Vikhroli flyover, which includes the eastern side, railway area, as well as the solid approach on the western side, is complete, there is a curve near St Joseph School on the western side where work on three spans is pending.
Civic officials said a deck slab will be placed there, which is an engineering challenge due to the constant traffic near the school and railway station. While this work is expected to be completed by May 31, Bangar directed that finishing touches, including crash barriers, noise barriers, railings, painting, thermoplast, electrical poles, and signages, be done simultaneously to open the flyover before monsoon.
