Chennai: Finance minister Thangam Thenarasu on Saturday said if AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami considered the welfare of Tamil Nadu important, then he must get an assurance from BJP-led Union govt on scrapping the National Eligibility and Entrance Test (Neet) to align with the saffron party.
In a post on X on Saturday, the minister said DMK had assured that Neet would be abolished if India bloc came to power at the Centre.
“Our leader M K Stalin even made Congress MP Rahul Gandhi affirm the same commitment,” he said.
He said Palaniswami, who switched three cars in Delhi, said he had not come to meet anyone privately, but eventually met Union home minister Amit Shah late at night. Later Shah said NDA will form the govt in Tamil Nadu.
“If Tamil Nadu’s welfare is truly your priority, are you ready to align only if you obtain a guarantee that Neet will be scrapped,” the minister asked Palaniswami.
