Patna: Recent advancements in geospatial technology based on artificial intelligence, machine learning and internet of things, and their applications in early disaster warning systems would prove to be much beneficial in the management of floods and related disasters in Bihar, said director of National Atlas and Thematic Mapping Organization, Binod Kumar Singh, on Friday.
He was speaking as a chief guest at the valedictory function of a weeklong workshop on ‘Earth observation technology in flood risk management’ organized by the geology department of Central University of South Bihar (CUSB), which concluded on the day.

At the outset of the workshop, sponsored by Indian Space Research Organisation, CUSB vice-chancellor K N Singh pleaded for adoption of an integrated approach towards disaster risk reduction, particularly with reference to floods. He expressed hope that the application of the latest technologies would minimize the loss of life and property in the event of any disaster.
The workshop, sponsored by Indian Space Research Organisation, saw attendance of experts from different organizations across the country, including Bihar Mausam Sewa Kendra director C N Prabhu, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing’s chief scientist C M Bhatt, director of Symbiosis Institute of Geoinformatics T P Singh, IIT(BHU)’s senior faculty member P K S Dikshit and National Institute of Disaster Management’s Surya Prakash.
