Ganja Smugglers: Odisha Police Officers Suspended for Helping Ganja Smugglers Escape |


Koraput: Three sub-inspectors, two constables of the Odisha Armed Police Force, and two home guards, were suspended on Wednesday for allegedly helping ganja smugglers flee during an operation under Machkund police station limits in the district.
Sources said the security team had intercepted a four-wheeler carrying ganja in Machkund. It was later discovered that the officers allegedly accepted bribes and allowed the smugglers to escape, seizing the vehicle.Confirming the suspension, DIG (south-western range) Charan Singh Meena said, “After receiving inputs about the police team’s involvement in helping the smugglers escape in exchange for money, an inquiry was conducted and the allegations were found to be true.”

A special police team from Theni arrested two ganja suppliers, Manjunathkumar and Beta Ramana, from Visakhapatnam. The arrests followed investigations into NDPS cases in Madurai. Red sanders anti-smuggling task force officials in Andhra Pradesh arrested a smuggler and confiscated 18 red sanders logs near Veeraballi forest, close to Rajampet. The arrested individual was identified as Dorai Swamy from Tamil Nadu. The task force is intensifying efforts to apprehend four other smugglers who escaped into the Seshachalam forests.
