Prayagraj: To instil national pride and moral responsibility alongside academics among students, the state govt has integrated key value-based initiatives into the school curriculum. The new academic calendar by the Board of Secondary Education now features water literacy programmes and student-led activities focused on Ganga cleanliness and conservation as part of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat campaign.Recognising schools as the bedrock of nation-building, the state govt is placing strong emphasis on instilling environmental responsibility among students. In line with this vision, the newly released academic calendar for secondary schools includes a series of activities focused on water conservation and Ganga cleanliness.Yogendra Singh, principal of KP Inter College, noted that a circular from the director of secondary education outlines year-round initiatives, encouraging active student participation in Ganga cleaning drives and promoting water literacy across campuses.The academic calendar emphasises introducing students to India’s historical and geographical diversity through the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’ initiative. Alongside this, students will take part in various sports, cultural, and literary activities. Schools have been directed to design activity plans accordingly, with special emphasis on observing national and international days and weeks.As part of the initiative, students will engage in awareness campaigns on road safety and the importance of preserving the continuous flow and cleanliness of the Ganga. A strong emphasis will be placed on experiential learning, with planned visits to nearby rivers or ponds for report writing, and field trips to rural and urban areas to observe and document local water conservation efforts.
