Patna: One of the accused in the alleged gang rape of a minor girl in Vaishali district was arrested on Sunday.
The incident had occurred when the girl was returning from a birthday party in the village on May 20 night. However, the complaint was not lodged until May 23. According to the police, the arrested individual, along with his three accomplices, had waylaid the girl and taken her to a nearby litchi farm where they committed the heinous crime.
Vaishali SP Harkishore Rai said, “The arrested accused has been identified as Vivek Kumar Singh, son of Pawan Singh.He, along with his three other associates, had allegedly gang-raped the minor. The police have detained Vivek and are conducting raids to apprehend his other accomplices.”
Local police station in-charge, Chandan Kumar, said that the girl had gone to attend a birthday party in the village alone on May 20.
“She was in a relationship with a youth from the same village. She had called him to meet her while she was returning from the party. While they were present in a litchi orchard, four youths of the same village had caught hold of them and threatened to reveal their affair to their families. They had even made a video of harassing the youth and the girl. Subsequently, the four accused had allegedly gang-raped the girl,” he said.
“The girl had not disclosed the matter to her family members out of fear, however, they suspected something foul. When the girl was convinced, she revealed the entire matter to the family. After that an FIR was lodged at the police station on May 24. The medical examination of the girl was conducted at the sadar hospital to confirm the rape. Further investigation is on,” the SHO added.
