In an encounter on April 13, 2023, six members of the Special Task Force killed gangster Atiq Ahmed’s son and shooter Mohammad Ghulam in Jhansi, earning the President’s Gallantry Medal. They were wanted for the Umesh Pal murder case. The Union home ministry announced awards for 1,037 individuals, including 213 police officers, several fire service personnel, and correctional services staff.
