Gajapati Baby Adopted By Andhra Couple |

Berhampur: A five-month-old boy, who was taken care of by Gajapati district administration after being given up by a single mother in Rayagada block four months ago, found a new home with parents in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday.
Following the guidelines of the Central Adoption Resources Authority (CARC), collector (Gajapati) Bijay Kumar Das handed over the baby to a couple from Andhra Pradesh at Paralakhemundi.
CARC is an autonomous and statutory body under the ministry of women and child welfare.
The handover event was attended by district child protection officer (DCPO) Arun Kumar Tripathy, officials from the child care home where the baby was housed after being given up, and a child protection officer from Andhra Pradesh.
The childless parents, who run a business near Visakhapatnam, expressed their happiness after adopting the baby, having waited around four years after applying to CARC.
“We liked him from the day we saw him. He is our son now,” said the mother, who preferred not to disclose her name.
