Gajapati admn prepares for summer, focuses on water, power supply
Berhampur: In anticipation of soaring summer temperatures, the district administration, at a preparatory meeting on Saturday, directed engineers of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) department to repair damaged tube wells and instructed the power distribution company to ensure an uninterrupted power supply during the summer season.
Gajapati district collector Bijay Kumar Dash presided over the meeting, which was attended by district-level officers.
He also directed health officials to stock ORS packets and open an emergency sunstroke ward at the district headquarters hospital. “Even though the maximum temperature in the district crossed 36°C in February, no heat-related deaths were reported,” said Dash.
Urban and rural local bodies have been instructed to set up water kiosks in strategic locations to provide drinking water to visitors and residents. Meanwhile, labour officials have been asked to enforce govt guidelines, ensuring that labourers take midday breaks to avoid sunstroke.
“We must prepare for zero casualties this year as well during the summer season,” said Dash.
