Rourkela: Police in Sundargarh district are planning to send a team outside the state to arrest a fugitive 49-year-old businessman accused of repeatedly raping a minor girl over two years.
The accused, who has business interests in Delhi and other locations, has been evading arrest since Oct. The 17-year-old survivor is the daughter of the accused’s friend and a classmate of the businessman’s daughter. The incident first occurred when the girl visited his residence to meet her classmate.
While the accused’s wife and daughter were downstairs, he allegedly called the teen to his room on the first floor and sexually assaulted her. He then threatened her not to disclose the incident to anyone. Police said the accused continued to exploit the minor’s vulnerability, allegedly sexually assaulting her multiple times over the past two years. She finally confided in her father and filed an FIR on Oct 5.
“The accused is still at large. We cannot reveal the location, but a team will soon be sent outside the state to apprehend him,” said R Swain, inspector.
A previous attempt to capture the accused proved unsuccessful when a six-member police team returned empty-handed from Delhi last month. Sources said the accused’s mobile phone is switched off further complicating tracking efforts.
The minor girl’s statement has been recorded before a magistrate.
