MUMBAI: A 58-year-old woman, who is a former bank officer, was swindled by fraudsters out of the staggering sum of over Rs. 1.6 crores in a fake share trading scam.
A police officer, quoting the complaint, said that the scam occurred between March 2024 and May 2024. The alleged accused, purporting to be associated with an entity named Broad Securities Group, enticed the victim to engage in share trading, promising lucrative returns.
“They persuaded her to invest a cumulative amount of Rs.1.59 crores in various bank accounts. Subsequent to the investment, when the victim sought returns and the retrieval of her invested sum, the alleged accused, whose five WhatsApp numbers have been specified in the FIR, proved unresponsive and failed to address her concerns. Upon realizing that she had fallen prey to a scam, the victim approached the Naupada police and lodged the current complaint,” the police officer informed TOI.
The police registered the FIR on Tuesday under the provisions of Section 420 of the IPC and the pertinent sections of the IT Act. The officer informed that an investigation into the crime was in progress, and as of now, no perpetrator has been apprehended by the police.
