Four place senior citizen under ‘digital arrest’, dupe him of 12L | Mumbai News – The Times of India

Navi Mumbai: A 70-year-old man residing in Koparkhairane became a victim of ‘digital arrest‘ by a gang of cyber fraudsters posing as CBI officers and courier agency staff. He was duped of Rs 12.50 lakh. They claimed that a parcel in his name had been seized at Mumbai airport. The parcel allegedly contained 140 grams of narcotics, eight passports, one laptop, and 4 kg of clothes.
Audumbar Patil, Senior Inspector of Koparkhairane, said the victim was contacted by one Amit Kumar posing as staff of a courier agency. He claimed that a parcel had been received in the complainant’s name. The victim after some time received a WhatsApp call from a person who identified himself as Vijay Pal, and two others who claimed to be CBI officers and threatened legal action keeping him under digital arrest.
