MUMBAI: Four fatalities were added Tuesday to the list of Covid-19 patients who have died in the state since cases began emerging in May, taking the toll to 14.In Maharashtra, two deaths occurred in Nagpur, one in Chandrapur, and one in Miraj. Elsewhere, a death each was recorded in Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.All the new deaths in the state – it was not immediately known over what period they occurred – and outside it, involved patients with co-morbidities. Of the 86 new Covid cases in state on Tuesday, 26 were from Mumbai, 9 from Thane, 6 from Navi Mumbai, and one each from Kalyan and Ulhasnagar. The total number of cases in the country has touched 4,026.One of the four state death was of a patient who had cardiac arrhythmia and COPD with chronic bronchitis. The national toll – which took into account 10 deaths in state – rose to 37.In the state, one of the four latest deaths was of a patient who had cardiac arrhythmia and COPD with chronic bronchitis. Another had Parkinson’s disease and hypertension, while one had diabetes, hypertension, and chronic renal failure.The fourth patient was immunocompromised and suffered from ischemic heart disease (IHD) and tuberculosis. Four new cases were reported from from Nashik city, three from Pune district, 24 from Pune city, three from Pimpri-Chinchwad, two from Kolhapur, one from Sangli district, four from Sangli, and two from Nagpur.Mumbai’s total number of Covid-19 cases since May now stands at 509. There had also been three deaths in the city, all involving patients with severe comorbidities.Doctors told TOI that most patients, even those with comorbidities, are recovering. The state health department on Monday asked civic bodies to conduct mock drills of all the pressure swing absorption oxygen plants.
